International Peace Day

The International Peace Day was established by a United Nation Resolution in 1981 and first celebrated in September 1982 on the opening day of the United Nations General Assembly. On the 7th September of 2001 the General Assembly officially declared the 21st of September as the permanent date for the Internation-al Day of Peace with the aim to invite “all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, regional and non-government organizations and indivitulas to commemorate, in an appropriate manner, the International Day of Peace, including through education and public awareness, and to cooperate with the United Nations in the establishment of the global ceasefire”.

With the patronage of Prof. Hamidullah Amin, Chancellor of Kabul University, NCPR and the Kabul University Scientific Research Center organized the participation of teachers and students at the celebration of the Peace Day. Students of Kabul University contributed actively to the Peace Day in a creative way by painting pictures and writing poems about their imagination of peace as well as by journalistic work.

Prof. Usmani, Director of the Kabul University Scientific Research Center, expressed his views regarding International Peace Day: “Peace is essential for all human beings and a successful social development of the country. But peace couldn’t be built in one day, it is a continuing process. Peace doesn’t evolve from an open space. Further, the meaning of peace is referring back to war – without war there wouldn’t be the need to speak about peace in Afghanistan. Today is the time for Afghanistan to find ways for reconstruction and development in order to support and to secure sustainable peace built by equality”.

On Sunday 12th of October 08, the NCPR held a program to admire the students of arts faculty and handed over the letters of appreciation to the best paintings. Consequently, the chancellor of Kabul University admired the tasks of NCPR, SRC and Arts faculty to the Pace Day through a letter of appreciation.
