known as the German – Afghan Research Forum (GARF), aimed at introducing the culture of scientific research methodology at Kabul University.
The Forum had as having 4 main objectives:

  • To introduce some 900 final year students to research methodology
  • To enable final year students to write monograph and seminars according to new research methodology criteria
  • To introduce teaching of monograph writing in Faculties
  • To produce a handout covering the main points of the course for future use

In order to achieve above mentioned objectives, the NCPR designed the program specifically for final year students, who are required to submit monographs and present seminars during their final year. It is hoped that the program can provide specific guidance on the entire research and writing process involved in the preparation of monographs and seminars.
The training were conducted in the 6 humanities Faculties of Kabul University:
1. Law & Political Science
2. Economics
3. Social Science
4. Journalism
5. Psychology and Education
6. Sharia
Six trainers were employed to teach the different departments of Kabul universities named above, with post-graduate degrees obtained from universities outside Afghanistan.
The trainers individually briefed trainees on research, role of research, importance of monograph writing, seminar presentation and role of institutions and centers like NCPR in conducting as such program. It was felt that such an introduction would provide information on importance of research, monograph writing and presenting seminar on one hand and providing information about the NCPR, on the other hand.
The course then dealt with the different stages of writing monograph and seminar presentation, by the trainers individually in the each faculty of Kabul University.

Sessions took place one afternoon a week for 10 weeks. The sessions were held in the Faculty buildings (as opposed to the NCPR, which cannot accommodate such large numbers). As each Faculty has around 100-150 final year students.
As the writing of monographs and seminar presentation is done in the second semester of the students’ final year, it was intended to conduct the training course over a 10 week period during the first semester of the academic year. The responsibilities of the six faculties of Kabul University were given to individual trainer of respective fields. The course planned to begin on 29th of April and ended on 5 July 2007.

Since this program was taught to students around 100-150 each faculty, the daily attendance list was not arranged, in order to save time, also NCPR had no evaluation process for the trainees due to not handing out certificates. The complete lists of students were sent to NCPR by the Deans of Faculties.

An estimated 900 final year students have been introduced to research methodology, with specific emphasis on writing monographs and seminar presentation, in accordance with the re-

quirements of Kabul University.
