Catalogue of Studies 2008

In Afghanistan, there is an essential need for coordinated research. The National Center for Policy Research has therefore taken up the task of assembling a catalogue of studies for the second time.
After conducing a number of workshops and consulting scholars, educationalists and officials altogether 30 research subjects were found to be of particular priority. The subjects cover the fields of law and political sciences, economics and sociology and each department was responsible for organizing 10 topics of this catalogue of studies.

Of these, one subject was chosen as the research topic of 2008 for each department as follow:

“The rule of law in Afghanistan and how to improve it” for department of Law, “Reconstruction of the Agriculture Sector in Afghanistan and its Impact on the Afghan Economy” for department of Economics and “Social Criteria of Durable peace and Security in Afghanistan” for department of Social Sciences

The three selected subjects were found to be of particular importance after consulting scholars and educationalists of respected fields. The research on these subjects will be funded by Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which established the center, together with Kabul University, in May 2003.
The aim of these studies is to provide information and guidelines for all those involved in policy-making: government, NGOs, donors, and others. Therefore, each study will include a survey of facts and documents, aimed at arriving at an overview, offer an analysis of this overview, and suggest a number of recommendations for the development of appropriate policy.
